Phoenix 99 LEMC: Camping at The Hollie's, Suffolk

President’s Blog: Kessingland Camping at The Hollies 29–30 August 2026 By Pistol, President Well, that was an experience. It was my first time camping since I was about ten, and the weather clearly wanted to make sure I remembered it. We arrived at The Hollies in Kessingland in pouring rain, and I ended up pitching my tent with my helmet still on — earning me the nickname “The Stig.” Naturally, the tent leaked anyway and I somehow managed to bend a pole. Things didn’t improve much with my so-called waterproof trousers, and there’s nothing quite like climbing back into wet jeans the next morning. Hazard arrived with a tent and sleeping bag, but no chair, cup or food, while Lee “Blondini” somehow seemed prepared for everything and even brought an umbrella. Smasher also gave us a moment to remember when his bike decided to take a lie down on the grass — thankfully with no damage. We were joined by Craig and Lewis, who fitted straight in and quickly organised a taxi into town for fish and chips and a couple of pints at The Red Lion. Great company and hopefully we’ll see them both out with us again soon. Back at camp, Lee was asleep and snoring within seconds, while the rain continued to come and go all weekend. Of course, the moment we finally packed the bikes ready to leave, the sun came out. Typical. If there’s a Phoenix 99 rule of camping, it’s probably this: if something can go wrong, it probably will. But despite the weather, leaking tents and soggy kit, it was a brilliant weekend with great company — and somehow I’m already looking forward to the next one.
